Bali 2011= Day 2- First Full day.Money, Leather and Supplies

Day 2
Day 2 Wednesday the 20th.
Up just before 5am  on Tuesday and here I sit again having gotten up at 5.30.
I’d listened to the roster crowing for at least an hour. I’d forgotten about that. Here I am outside our room, RID on to deter the mossies, which, now it is finally light( 30 mins after starting to type) I can see languidly buzzing around.  There are doves cooing, and 2 other little birds I can hear chirping as well.  There’s a slight coolness in the air. It actually feels cooler now the sun has come up.  But not completely.
Hubby popped his head out to see what I was doing but the mossies scared him back inside again.
On the agenda for the day. A trip to Hardys for sim cards and credit, a few nibbles, water, visit the Peri Plus book shop, perhaps visit the optometrist.and to find the Jinggo leather shop again. And of course, several cappuccinos and maybe a bintang or 2.

Our breakfast view from the Gardenia Cafe .They even have a couple of power points to plug laptops into.
9.49pm
Back in the room. A day of mixed success.
Breakfast and our after breakfast cappuccinos  went beautifully to plan.   We got found Jinggo Leather but the boss man  was busy and said we’d be back later after lunch. So off to the Circle K  to change some money and into Hardy’s for supplies.
There’s now a metal detector to walk through and they check bags as you go in.  All the watch, sunglasses, handbag sellers, large print photo canvas sellers have been shifted to the top floor since our visit last August.
After some wandering we discovered the Sim card sellers and while I organised our Sim cards and some credit Hubby and the youngest bought new watches, ignored the sunglass sellers, admired the wallets  while eldest glowered at the  sellers and I discovered that the notes I’d found at home and had originally planned to use for the taski at the airport weren’t the ones leftover from last year but from a trip to Bali about 20 years ago. So there are notes floating around at home somewhere and I have  some notes that are valueless.   Then it was down to the back of the second floor to see if they could find some  new sandshoes  for youngest who has been wearing the ones he got last year and is keen to get some more. Of course they didn’t have exactly the same ones but they were close enough. 2 pairs later it was into the supermarket for water, snacks and cool drink.   BUT not until I’d tried to fall down the stairs and break my ankle. Luckily it was the bottom step and as I started to fall I dropped so all I’ve ended up with is a slightly bruised left knee, a sore ankle and a tender right knee. Should be fine. No broken bones or skin but it has meant I wasn’t up to walking much for the rest of the day.
Hardys above.   Pics from the Gardenia  below. The wash basins are outside the coffee cafe's toilets.  They look lovely there.

Taski back to the Gardenia , feet up and a scotch then some lunch. Green chicken curry for me! Eldest seems to be starting a trend with fish and chips. Husband and youngest with hamburgers.  Back to the room and organised to go back to the shoe place.
Walk around as far as the Trophy Pub and then grab a Taski there to find he’s not there and will be back at 8.30. The other guy there has fairly limited English so best to talk to the boss man. Eldest and I wander into a dvd shop while Hubby goes exploring to find a yoga shop he’s heard about, “Manic Organic.” Then we head back to the Gardenia for some R n R. By this stage the tourist coaches have arrived and filled the coffee shop. a short cool off in the pool and a scotch  and I’m feeling a little better.
I take the laptop to the coffee shop and try and gets some work done while I enjoy an icy  lime juice.
Time to rest.
At 6 we all decide we could eat “a little” but not too much and head out to the Trophy Bar for something light. Eldest has, yes you guessed it, fish and chips.  Not a very big serve., hubby- nasi goreng, beef rending for me(sml) and some chips for youngest.
A guitarist sings and plays while we eat. It’s pleasant. Much improved over last nights music. Then hubby takes youngest back to the room while we wait and head back to Jinggo. To find he’s gone to Kuta and not back until the morning.
A quick dash into Hardys to the Periplus, one book and one helpful conversation later with some other regular Bali visitors and we end up in the supermarket buying bargain sensodyne toothpaste, oreos  and more coke as  Hubby doesn’t like the fanta he bought earlier. Out  of Hardys and into the first taksi we find to take us “Home.”.  We’ll try tomorrow to get some shoes organised.  Taksi's are costing just under 10, 000 ( once) to around 10,700 Rp though mostly around 10,500.  Always on the meter otherwise they want 20, 000.
Power has been off again once.
Time to crash on the bed.

Good night.
